On January 7, CBP agents deployed chemical irritants, pushed and tackled people, and arrested four people, including a Roosevelt High School staff member, outside the school in Minneapolis. Video footage shows one agent appear to knee and punch a person as agents detain them on the ground. A CBP official claimed agents were apprehending someone near the school after a vehicle chase when a crowd formed. The incident contributed to Minneapolis Public Schools closing entirely on January 8 and 9, impacting around 100 schools and 30,000 students.
