Man detained after attending scheduled USCIS appointment in Florida, others skip appointments out of fear
2025 · Miramar, FL
One person interviewed for the report was detained after attending a scheduled appointment with USCIS, and another was detained while at an appointment with ICE. An activist who provides support outside the ICE office in Miramar, Florida said people are increasingly skipping appointments out of fear of arrest. 'I've seen cars gathering dust in the parking lot,' she said, 'because people went inside for an appointment and never came out.' The report found that the climate of fear is causing immigrants to avoid police, immigration appointments, hospitals, places of worship, and schools.
