2025 · Tampa, FL, Cuba

Valeria C., a 44-year-old Cuban woman who had lived in Tampa, Florida, for five years and had a valid work permit, was pulled over for speeding on her way to work. When she showed her work permit, the officer told her he had to contact ICE. She was detained shortly afterward and transferred to Camp East Montana. Her case illustrates how routine encounters with local police have become part of broader federal enforcement campaigns under 287(g) agreements. More than 1,400 people at Camp East Montana were arrested through such agreements, with Florida's 344 participating jurisdictions representing the highest number of any state.
