People detained at Camp East Montana were routinely denied outdoor recreation for weeks at a time, despite ICE standards requiring at least one hour daily. Between August and December 2025, recreation occurred only once every two weeks for approximately 15 minutes. Lorenzo P. described spending a full month with roughly 70 other people with no sunlight or fresh air. 'We had to gather at the entrance of our cell and hit the metal doors and yell Yarda, yarda, yarda!' he said. 'We needed to be let out to the yard.' When detainees protested, guards called anti-disturbance teams who beat anyone nearby. By June 2026, detainees were taken outside once per week for an hour, often early morning or late evening when the sun was no longer visible. Recreation areas were small, enclosed spaces with artificial turf surrounded by barbed wire.
