Floridalma Sanchez-Gomez was driving home with her two brothers in Golden Gate, Stuart, Florida, when an FHP trooper in an unmarked car began following her, reportedly for tinted windows and a rolling right turn. When she pulled into her own driveway, the trooper pulled the five-foot-tall woman by her shirt, pressed her against the vehicle with his Taser drawn, and ordered her in English — a language she does not speak — to put her hands behind her back. When she tried to run to the house, he tased her twice: once in her back and again after she fell to the ground. Officers then forced their way inside with a crowbar and sledgehammer to arrest her brothers. More than a dozen FHP troopers, FWC, CBP, and ICE agents filled the residential street within minutes, some with assault-style weapons. An FHP helicopter monitored overhead. A 19-year-old U.S.-citizen neighbor was arrested under Florida's Halo Law for standing too close to the scene. Floridalma's 13-year-old niece came home from school to find no one home and a broken front door. Floridalma, an asylum seeker with employment authorization, was charged with failure to stop and resisting an officer. One of her brothers was deported soon after.
