Hundreds of thousands of Haitian migrants face arrest and deportation as TPS protections end

Jul 26, 2026 · Springfield, OH, Haiti

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has made plans to ramp up operations to arrest and deport Haitian migrants as over 300,000 Haitians prepare to lose Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and work permits following a Supreme Court ruling siding with the Trump administration. The internal plans include arresting migrants in Ohio and other states, with potential deportation flights to Haiti beginning as early as the week the article was published. Those without removal orders are entitled to appear before an immigration judge before deportation, but the operations raise humanitarian concerns given Haiti's dire security situation and gang violence.
