Professor arrested for organizing protests against ICE enforcement operations

Jun 16, 2026 · St. Paul, MN

Erik Davis, a 53-year-old college professor and Buddhist studies scholar at Macalester College, was arrested on June 16, 2026, on federal charges of conspiracy to impede ICE officers. Davis and 14 others were indicted for allegedly using "force, intimidation, and threats" to obstruct federal law enforcement, though prosecutors have not alleged any specific injuries to officers or that Davis took violent actions. Civil rights advocates say these prosecutions criminalize lawful community organizing and are designed to intimidate activists opposing deportations.
