ICE increases visible street arrests across Milwaukee area
Jun 28, 2026 · Milwaukee, WI
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted a series of highly visible arrests across Milwaukee's south side and Waukesha over a weekend in late June 2026, marking a significant shift in enforcement tactics. According to immigrant advocacy group Voces de la Frontera, at least 18 people were arrested, including 17 in Milwaukee and one in Waukesha, with most detainees having open asylum cases or prior deportation orders and no serious criminal charges. ICE agents conducted street-based arrests using unmarked SUVs with masked and armored agents, in some cases breaking car windows and using force, prompting local elected officials to call for enforcement of a city ordinance prohibiting masked law enforcement officers and criticism from Milwaukee's mayor and county executive.
