U.S. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino has made a series of apparent misrepresentations in enforcement actions across the Chicago area, resulting in multiple case dismissals. In a Telemundo interview on October 23, Bovino stated he deployed tear gas in Little Village because he was hit in the head with a rock, but later admitted under oath the rock hit him after the tear-gassing. In video footage, agents on the Broadview facility's roof shot pepper balls at a pastor, hitting him in the head, but Bovino denied witnessing this. When shown footage of himself tackling a man backing away, Bovino denied using force and claimed force was used against him. Bovino also testified that Latin Kings gang members wearing maroon hoodies were present at a protest, but later admitted he could not identify any gang associated with maroon and federal authorities found only a handful of people in maroon at the scene, including an alderperson. U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis found in early November that Bovino "admitted that he lied about whether a rock hit him before he deployed tear gas."
