Haitian migrants in Springfield ordered to ICE check-ins, fitted with ankle monitors

Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, who were protected under Temporary Protected Status are being summoned by ICE for check-in appointments and are being outfitted with ankle monitors after reporting to their appointments, according to immigrant advocates. Viles Dorsainvil, executive director of the Haitian Community Help and Support Center in Springfield, said the summons letters arrive with short notice and instruct recipients to bring all immigration documents. Dorsainvil said those who don't attend face removal proceedings. The summons come after the U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for the Trump administration to end Haiti's TPS designation, affecting as many as 350,000 people including roughly 15,000 Haitian migrants in Springfield. Dorsainvil said the community is traumatized, with people afraid to leave their homes, go to work, or visit grocery stores.
