Observer following agents' vehicles

People who followed ICE in their cars to observe, beaten, detained, or otherwise harmed by officers

Stories describe people who followed or filmed ICE vehicles while monitoring enforcement operations, including in Minneapolis, Richfield, and Woodbury, Minnesota, and in California, Oregon, New Jersey, Maine, and New York. Observers report being rammed by vehicles, pepper-sprayed, teargassed, held at gunpoint, boxed in, or detained for hours without charge, with some cases resulting in arrest or lawsuits. First documented in January 2025, this practice became recurring in November 2025, which was also its peak month, and now makes up a smaller share of reported stories than at that peak.

First documented Jan 2025, recurring since Nov 2025. A smaller share of recent stories than at its peak.

Share of each month's well-documented stories, Jan 2025 to Oct 2026. Volume is not shown: coverage grew over the record, shares did not have to.
