Trump administration targets immigration judges for removal, accelerates deportations

Aug 10, 2026 · Phoenix, AZ

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced the Justice Department is removing immigration judges deemed too slow or not following the law, as part of the Trump administration's mass deportation agenda. Dozens of judges have already been removed during Trump's second term, with critics alleging they were targeted for approving too many asylum cases. The administration has also deployed masked officers to handcuff migrants at closed asylum hearings and issued directives to judges to comply with enforcement priorities. Civil rights advocates say immigration courts are increasingly becoming enforcement traps that undermine due process protections.
