Queens residents rally against reported ICE enforcement surge in Corona, Elmhurst
Aug 10, 2026 · Corona, NY

Residents and immigration advocates gathered at Corona Plaza on August 10 to protest what they described as a surge in ICE sightings and arrests across Queens neighborhoods including Elmhurst, East Elmhurst, College Point, and Corona. Organizers reported that armed federal agents have taken someone into custody nearly every day in recent weeks, with over half of July detentions occurring in Corona. New York Immigration Coalition President Murad Awawdeh stated the Trump administration's enforcement activity has created panic and fear in the community. City Council Member Shekar Krishnan condemned the crackdown, noting that immigrant communities—essential workers, street vendors, caregivers, and small business owners—are vital to the city. Immigration rights organizations including Make the Road New York are training residents on their constitutional rights when encountering immigration enforcement.
