Detainees sickened by gas leak, extreme heat; denied care at Mississippi ICE facility
Aug 14, 2026 · Natchez, MS
Detainees at the ICE-run Adams County detention center in Mississippi say a mystery gas leak left them with headaches and other symptoms, and they were denied medical care. A subsequent two-day power outage left the facility without air conditioning, forcing detainees to endure hours in near 100F heat or swelter in overcrowded cells. An inspection found 23 use-of-force or restraint violations, downgrading the facility's rating.
