Rep. Bennie Thompson visits Adams County ICE detention facility

Rep. Bennie Thompson, a Mississippi Democrat, visited the Adams County Correctional Center, the second largest ICE detention facility in the country, to inspect conditions and address complaints about processing, clothing access, and healthcare. Thompson spoke with approximately 50 detainees out of about 1,400 held at the facility that day, representing immigrants from Russia, China, Afghanistan, Eritrea, Sudan, and South America. The visit was conducted following a federal court ruling that restored lawmakers' right to make unannounced inspections of ICE detention centers after the Trump administration had restricted such visits.
