Danbury immigrants remain fearful after ICE sweep detains dozens, denies lawyers access

Danbury United For Immigrants documented that ICE agents arrested or detained 65 immigrants during a sweep of the city the week before, based on reports from witnesses and family members, though advocates believe the true number is higher. Immigration attorney Glenn Formica said some detainees were held at unspecified 'dark sites' inaccessible to lawyers before being transferred out of state. U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal held a public forum with Mayor Roberto Alves, advocates, and family members of detainees, and DHS responded by stating ICE enforcement in Connecticut would continue and criticized state law limiting local police cooperation with federal immigration detainers.
