ICE deportation data shows record pace, most detainees lack convictions

ICE data show more than 356,000 removals so far this fiscal year, putting the government on pace to approach the modern-era record set in fiscal 2013. Roughly 70% of the 65,765 people in ICE detention have never been convicted of a crime, according to Syracuse University's TRAC project analysis of ICE data. The surge has particularly affected Haitians who lost Temporary Protected Status after a Supreme Court ruling, with deportation flights to Haiti increasing from about once a month to nearly every Thursday, sending people back to a country plagued by gang violence and displacement.
