ICE arrests of Asian New Yorkers surge over 400% under Trump, new tracker shows

A new tracking tool from Stop AAPI Hate shows ICE arrests of Asian and Pacific Islander immigrants in New York rose more than 400% during the second Trump administration compared to the previous one. Statewide, 1,586 Asian immigrants were arrested between January 2025 and August 2026, with arrests of Chinese immigrants increasing more than tenfold. Nationally, ICE arrests of Asian immigrants rose 436%, detentions rose 512%, and deportations climbed 1103%, all outpacing the 219% increase in enforcement across all nationalities. The data, compiled through the A/PI ICE Tracker, can be broken down by state, country of origin, age, and gender across 35 Asian and Pacific Islander nations and territories.
