Federal agents detained at least 10 people, including some reports of up to two dozen, across New Bedford, Dartmouth, and Fall River in a sweep on September 21, 2026. Among those taken was Miguel Ixcuna, a Guatemalan immigrant who has lived in the U.S. for about 12 years and works as a fruit and vegetable packer in Plymouth; he was pulled from the driver's seat of his car during a traffic stop while his partner, Antonia Lucas, and their two young daughters, ages 3 and 9, sat in the back seat. Lucas said agents blocked their vehicle, demanded her identification, then removed Ixcuna without explanation and told her to find him an attorney. Other detainees included fish house workers pulled from the port area, three men taken from a Market Basket parking lot, and Kenchino Pierre, arrested near a laundromat. Court records showed only minor, largely dismissed offenses among those detained, and Gov. Maura Healey noted many had lived locally for years and were headed to work, with one child left waiting at school for his detained father. An attorney with the Community Economic Development Center has filed a habeas case to prevent Ixcuna, who has a valid driver's license and no criminal record, from being transferred out of state; he is currently held at Burlington's ICE Processing Center and told Lucas he is worried about his family.
