ICE withholds passports and work permits for months after detention
Seven people released from ICE detention say the agency kept their passports, work permits, and other belongings for months, costing some their jobs and leaving them afraid to leave home.

Seven plaintiffs — Ezequiel Gonzalez, Joel Vigil Rodriguez, Rolando Ramirez Fuentes, Enis Suleima Luna Ardila, Alex Estuardo Hernandez Perez, Vladimir Izmailov, and Domingo Tot Quip — filed a nationwide class action against DHS and ICE alleging the agency routinely fails to return property seized from people detained for civil immigration purposes. The suit says ICE has kept passports, work permits, driver's licenses, money, and other personal items from the plaintiffs for at least five months after their release, despite their requests for the property's return. Plaintiffs say the missing documents have cost them jobs and left them afraid to leave their homes due to lack of identification, and they are suing under the Fourth and Fifth Amendments for the property's return.
