Kasper Juul Eriksen, a 32-year-old Danish national who has lived in Mississippi since 2013, was arrested by ICE agents during his final citizenship interview in April 2025. He was held for nearly four months at the LaSalle Detention Center in Jena, Louisiana, before being released on $7,500 bond, just days before the birth of his fifth child. His detention stemmed from a 2019 removal order issued after he failed to timely file a form to remove conditions on his residency following complications with his wife's pregnancy and a stillbirth; Eriksen says he never received notice of the order, while DHS maintains he failed to appear for his immigration hearing. His wife said he will be able to reapply for U.S. citizenship in the future.
