A man was detained by immigration officers on 6th Street in San Francisco's SoMa neighborhood on a Monday morning after a plainclothes agent drew a gun on him and ordered him to the ground. Security camera footage captured him repeatedly telling officers, 'I don't know who you guys are,' 'I'm an American citizen,' and 'I know my rights,' as four officers, some wearing SRT patches and neck gaiters obscuring their faces, struggled to restrain him before leading him away in handcuffs. The San Francisco Rapid Response Network reported ICE sightings that day in both the SoMa and Excelsior neighborhoods, with one person detained overall. San Francisco's Public Defender's Office said its Immigration Defense Unit was working to secure the man legal representation, calling it 'outrageous for a plainclothes ICE agent to pull a gun on someone walking down the streets of our city.' Mayor Daniel Lurie said his office coordinated with the Rapid Response Network and reiterated that San Francisco law enforcement does not participate in federal civil immigration enforcement.
