Jose Navas, who moved to the U.S. from El Salvador 22 years ago, was detained by ICE agents after being pulled over by a sheriff's deputy in Lubbock while working on hailstorm-related roofing jobs. His wife, a U.S. citizen, said an unmarked car with ICE agents arrived after the traffic stop and took him and his fellow roofers into custody; Navas was turned over to ICE for not having a driver's license. He was transferred to a detention center in Eden, near San Angelo, which his wife said is severely overcrowded. Navas and his wife have three children together, ages 6, 3, and 1, and he was in the process of working toward citizenship; his wife is now consulting an attorney to try to get him released.
