On July 18, 2025, a driver identified as Jacinto was pulled over on Highway 129 in Jefferson, Georgia, under the state's 'Slowpoke' law, which addresses driving too slowly in the left lane. A police officer handed Jacinto and three Mexican passengers in the vehicle over to ICE; the three passengers were later deported. Jacinto remains detained at Stewart Detention Center, where his bond has been denied twice. His family and attorney say he was not permitted a phone call at the time of arrest, was never told the charges against him, and had a valid driver's license and a pending green card application at the time of the stop; no criminal charges were filed under the traffic law.
