J.Y., a Chinese immigrant and green card holder who has lived in the U.S. since 1998, has been detained at Farmville Detention Center in Virginia for more than 450 days as of October 2026. He continues a nearly decade-long weekly ritual of managing his fantasy football team by phone with his longtime friend Patrick Beverly. The center holds over 700 immigrants awaiting immigration judge decisions.
