Immigration attorneys report that ICE arrests at required check-in appointments for immigrants seeking legal status have resumed in San Francisco after being paused for approximately six weeks, with most detentions occurring at the 630 Sansome Street facility. Since January 2025, check-in frequencies have increased to sometimes every three months. Hundreds of immigrants were arrested at check-ins between January and October 2025 before arrests slowed in December following a federal lawsuit, Pablo Sequen et al. v. Albarrán et al., alleging inhumane holding conditions; a federal judge's November 2025 preliminary injunction halted courtroom arrests and prompted ICE to pledge improvements such as blankets, food and water, though it did not stop arrests at check-ins themselves. Attorneys say some detainees have obtained quicker releases, including in Marin and Sonoma counties, by filing habeas corpus petitions.
