ICE detained people for weeks in small rooms, Colorado Democrats demand immediate halt
Jul 10, 2025 · New York, NY

A Guardian investigation found ICE increasingly detains people in small holding facilities for days or weeks in violation of federal policy, with detention times increasing by nearly 600% after a June 2025 rule change allowing up to three days. Colorado congressional Democrats and state legislators demanded in March 2026 that ICE immediately stop the practice, citing reports of individuals held for as long as 39 days in facilities across the state, far exceeding even the three-day limit.
