Jul 4, 2026·Location: Brooklyn, NY
Country of origin: Kuwait

A legal permanent resident living in Brooklyn, NY, was detained by ICE on July 3 as he was leaving his apartment and taken to a detention center in Louisiana. He is described as a writer, filmmaker, art teacher and activist whose friends have launched a fundraising campaign for his bail bond, legal fees, and travel costs. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has since terminated his legal status, with a State Department official citing social media posts in which he criticized U.S. and Israeli policy and expressed support for Hamas as grounds for his deportation. He entered the U.S. in 2014 to study at San Jose State University and obtained his green card in 2024.
