Seven legally authorized restaurant workers detained by ICE during traffic stop in Lake Placid

On June 2, 2026, ICE agents detained seven employees from Indian Heritage restaurant in Lake Placid during a traffic stop near Fowler's Crossing on State Route 86 as they traveled to work. According to North Country Immigrant Allies and other advocacy groups, all seven detainees possessed work authorization and legal status to live and work in the United States. The detainees were transported to a detention facility in Batavia, approximately 300 miles away. Local law enforcement was not aware of the operation.
