44-year-old Cuban woman with diabetes given insulin at irregular intervals, causing dangerous blood sugar swings at Camp East Montana

2025 · El Paso, TX, Cuba

Valeria C., a 44-year-old Cuban woman with diabetes requiring pills and insulin, received dangerously inconsistent care at Camp East Montana. She was usually woken at 4 a.m. for her first insulin dose, disrupting her sleep. She rarely received her second dose or accompanying pills. The irregular insulin schedule caused her blood sugar to spike and then drop to dangerously low levels. She experienced severe headaches, fatigue, and nausea as a result of missing medication.
