Journalist struck by flashbang shrapnel while filming spontaneous protest against immigration raid in LA Garment District

On June 6, 2025, a journalist was struck with shrapnel from a flashbang grenade while filming a spontaneous protest against an immigration raid in the Garment District of downtown Los Angeles. This was the first documented crowd-control weapons misuse incident in the PHR/UC Berkeley dataset. The incident marked the beginning of a year in which 177 journalists were documented as targets of crowd-control weapons at immigration enforcement protests nationwide.
