LASD fires aerial warning munitions directly at protesters in Los Angeles, causing some of the most serious injuries documented
2025 · Los Angeles, CA
During immigration enforcement protests in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department directly fired aerial warning munitions at protesters in violation of manufacturer protocols. PHR and UC Berkeley found that this practice produced some of the most serious injuries documented in their year-long study. LASD enacted no reforms to its crowd-control practices despite prior scrutiny following the 2020 George Floyd protests. Stun grenades and other distraction devices caused embedded foreign bodies from shrapnel, traumatic brain injuries, and a partial hand amputation across the national dataset.
