ICE arrests of criminals in NYC top 6,500 ahead of promised surge
Jul 21, 2026 · New York, NY
ICE has arrested nearly 6,500 immigrants with criminal histories across New York City since President Trump took office, according to White House border czar Tom Homan. Homan stated that a promised surge of ICE officers to the sanctuary city is forthcoming but declined to provide operational details to protect officer safety. The city's new mayor, Zohran Mamdani, has implemented sanctuary policies that bar local law enforcement from cooperating with ICE at Rikers Island jail.
