Hadicha, a 35-year-old woman from Uzbekistan, was expelled from the U.S. to Panama with her children. At the San Vicente detention center in the Darién jungle, her children developed swelling and rashes on their arms and backs from allergies. The Red Cross provided cream and pills that helped, but a medical worker told her the allergies were her fault because she had not washed or changed her children's clothes. She told Human Rights Watch there was no place to wash clothes and they had no change of clothes. The children were surrounded by iron bars and followed by police whenever they went outside, leaving them traumatized — when they were finally released, they initially believed they would still be followed around by police if they left their rooms.
