Trump administration suspends immigrant visa processing for 75 countries

Jan 21, 2025

The Trump administration has indefinitely suspended immigrant visa processing for applicants from 75 countries effective January 21, 2025. Officials are targeting people deemed likely to become a "public charge" and rely on government benefits. The freeze applies globally across Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe, with limited exceptions for dual nationals or those serving "America First" interests. Consular officers must refuse cases where visas have been approved but not yet printed.
