A USC Equity Research Institute analysis found ICE arrests of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in California increased 1,109% in 2025, far outpacing the 386% rise in overall ICE arrests statewide. Nearly 3,000 AAPI individuals were arrested, accounting for 1 in every 10 ICE arrests in the state, with the largest increases among communities from India, China, Vietnam, Armenia and Laos. About 56% of AAPI Californians arrested had no criminal record, up from 19% in 2024. Advocates said arrests are occurring at homes, workplaces, courthouses and check-ins, instilling fear and causing families to scramble to locate loved ones.
