ICE expands 287(g) partnerships across Tennessee, deputizing local police for immigration arrests

ICE announced it now has 120 local law enforcement partners under the 287(g) program in Tennessee, with agencies authorized to arrest and detain immigrants for ICE. Since January 2025, 287(g) partners in the state have made more than 1,300 arrests and had 542 encounters with immigrants in local custody. The article cites the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office arresting a Honduran man, who had prior sexual battery convictions, on its first day as a partner agency, and notes a new Tennessee law requiring all sheriffs to sign 287(g) agreements by 2027.
