Broken copiers and delayed legal mail at Eloy cause missed court and appeal deadlines
Jun 2026·Location: Eloy, AZ
People detained at the Eloy Detention Center told the Florence Project that the legal-document printer and copier is sometimes broken for days, causing missed deadlines; that staff refuse to make copies, limit people to one copy even though immigration court requires three, and decline to copy passports and birth certificates for 'privacy reasons.' Detained people also reported that legal mail is badly delayed — one woman's was not sent out for about 10 days — that documents mailed to the court never arrive, and that they can no longer get tracking numbers, leaving no proof of timely filing. One man missed his Board of Immigration Appeals deadline because the mail room was slow, and he said several others did too.
