William M.C.: Diabetic Nicaraguan man held by ICE despite no removal plans
A 48-year-old Nicaraguan man held at Aurora ICE Processing Center since July 2026 says he lacks adequate care for diabetes and hypertension, even though ICE has no plans to deport him.
Jul 1, 2026Aurora, COCountry of origin: Nicaragua
A 48-year-old man from Nicaragua was previously granted withholding of removal and released on an Order of Supervision after his removal order was entered more than six years ago. He was later re-detained by ICE and has been held since July 2026 at the Aurora ICE Processing Center, where he says he has gone without adequate care for his diabetes and hypertension. He filed a habeas corpus petition in federal court arguing his continued detention is unlawful because ICE has told him it has no current plans to remove him. A federal judge found it unclear on what basis he is being detained given the age of his removal order, ordered the government to show cause within fourteen days why he should not be released, and granted a temporary restraining order barring his removal or transfer out of Colorado in the meantime.
