Therese B., a 30-year-old woman who could not be deported to her own country because she would likely be persecuted there, had been detained for one year and two months when, she said, "I was removed by surprise to Cameroon." She did not know she was going to Cameroon until officers took her to the plane, was not told in advance, and was given no chance to contact her lawyer. "I think the week [my lawyer] wanted to apply for habeas corpus for me, I was removed," she said.
