Over 3,000 migrants held in Colorado ICE facilities for weeks beyond legal limits

Six Colorado Democrats demanded ICE cease extended detentions at nine holding facilities across the state, where more than 3,000 migrants were held for weeks in 2025 despite rules limiting stays to 12 hours (extended to 72 hours by the Trump administration in June 2025). A March 8 investigation by the Colorado Times Recorder, based on Deportation Data Project information, revealed detainees including children and seniors were confined in small rooms without proper facilities. The lawmakers expressed concern about safety risks and stated the extended detentions violate Department of Homeland Security policy.
