ICE arrests surge in Pacific Northwest as detention center mistreatment reported

ICE arrests in Washington state surged to 2,340 in 2025, a 152% increase from 2024, with the largest increases in King, Yakima, and Clark counties, according to University of Washington Center for Human Rights data. The surge was driven by non-custodial street arrests using license plate queries and state driver's license data access. Reports from the Council on American-Islamic Relations document mistreatment of Muslim detainees at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, including restrictions on religious observance during Ramadan.
