Democrats say ICE lockup conditions are worsening
May 11, 2026 · Dilley, TX, Venezuela

Rep. Joaquin Castro and other Democrats in Congress have visited ICE detention facilities, particularly the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, and report worsening conditions. The facility, which reopened under the Trump administration, now holds an average of 65,000 people daily across ICE facilities, up from 37,000 under Biden. Congressional members document allegations of neglect, mistreatment, and inhumane conditions, including cases of pregnant women, infants, and children held in detention.
