Trump administration fast-tracks deportations of unaccompanied minors, fires judges resisting directives

The Trump administration has systematized the rapid deportation of unaccompanied children in immigration courts, with judges ordered to process cases in minutes rather than hours, waive interpretation, and rule against asylum and Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) status applications. Immigration judges with favorable grant rates toward minors have been fired, and recruitment materials explicitly seek "deportation judges." The shift has increased the rate of minors ordered removed or agreeing to voluntary departure sevenfold, while reducing the backlog of unaccompanied children in custody through border closure and reduced pro-bono legal representation.
