CNN identified more than 100 US citizen children, ranging from newborns to teenagers, who have been separated from their parents due to ICE enforcement actions since President Trump took office in January 2025. The children have been placed in the care of relatives, neighbors, friends, coworkers, and strangers after their parents were detained during workplace raids, at ICE check-ins, or while dropping children at school. The Trump administration removed "humane enforcement" language from ICE's detention policy and is pursuing aggressive enforcement operations that result in parents being deported within days or weeks, often without adequate time to arrange childcare or make arrangements for their children to accompany them.
