Camp East Montana detainees describe food portions 'like TV meals,' weight loss of up to 30 pounds, expired and undercooked food
People detained at Camp East Montana described food that was low quality, insufficient, and unhealthy, with portions 'like meals for toddlers.' Food was precooked, frozen, and microwaved. Detainees reported biting into meals that were still frozen or undercooked. Esteban H. said: 'The eggs we get for breakfast have the texture of plastic. I often go hungry and have experienced dizziness and seen white dots because of lack of food.' Detainees reported losing up to 30 pounds. People with diabetes and pre-diabetes who required bland diets experienced long delays or missed meals. Ricardo H., a pre-diabetic man who went more than 20 hours without food, was beaten by guards when he protested. Commissary was not available. There were no snacks between the 5 p.m. dinner and 7 a.m. breakfast.
