New federal data obtained by the Deportation Data Project shows ICE arrests in Utah have surged in 2026, with 3,467 arrests from January through July compared to 2,116 during the same period the previous year. West Valley City recorded the most arrests of any Utah city, both overall and for noncustodial community arrests, despite lacking its own jail. More than a quarter of all ICE arrests statewide since October 2025 involved people with no criminal charges or convictions, rising to 54% for noncustodial arrests and half for arrests made under the 287(g) program. Local advocates and lawmakers describe growing fear in immigrant communities, changes in daily behavior, and a case in Ogden where police body camera footage showed an officer assisting an ICE agent in a traffic stop that led to an arrest.
