Deportees held incommunicado in Salvadoran prisons, lawmakers demand names
Mar 31, 2026

Between March and April 2025, the U.S. government transported approximately 30 to 40 Salvadorans and more than 200 Venezuelans to El Salvador's Center for Terrorism and Confinement (CECOT). Members of Congress sent a letter to the Secretaries of State and Homeland Security stating the deportees have been held incommunicado, denied the right to challenge their deportations, and that the full list of passengers on the flights has never been made public. The lawmakers raised concerns that some deportations may have been based on invalid orders and requested the release of the names, nationalities, and immigration file numbers of those still detained.
