New rule cuts refugees' time to appeal status termination to 10 days
Oct 13, 2026
USCIS issued an interim final rule reducing the period for resettled refugees to appeal termination of their refugee status from thirty days to ten, bypassing the usual notice-and-comment process. The International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP) says the change removes meaningful due process protections and lays groundwork for mass deportation of refugees. The group noted it had already obtained court orders in Minnesota and nationally blocking earlier unlawful detentions of refugees awaiting green cards.
