An immigrant who had previously been released from immigration custody on parole or conditional bond was re-detained on August 13, 2026 and held at the Golden State Annex Detention Facility. He filed a habeas corpus petition and motion for a temporary restraining order, arguing the government violated his due process rights by re-detaining him without first holding a bond hearing before a neutral arbiter. A federal judge in the Eastern District of California granted the petition, ordering his immediate release under the same conditions as before his detention, the return of his documents and belongings including his work permit, and requiring the government to provide seven days' notice and a pre-deprivation bond hearing before any future re-detention.
